Wisdom Paves the Way

NoteWhat This Chapter Covers

The final chapter of Unit 1: Wit and Wisdom is a play based on a much-loved folk tale. Four young friends — Ram Datt, Shiv Datt, Har Datt, and Dev Datt — set out for Ujjain to find work. Along the road they study a camel’s tracks and, without ever seeing the animal, each works out something about it. When a merchant loses his camel and accuses them of theft, they are taken before the King of Ujjain. There, they prove their innocence by explaining their reasoning step by step. So impressed is the king that he makes them his royal advisers. You will read the play scene by scene, study how the four deductions work, learn drama vocabulary and useful grammar, and practise CBSE-style questions.
