Waiting for the Rain
NoteWhat This Chapter Covers
The final chapter of Unit 4: Environment is a moving story about a farmer named Velu and a year of drought. Day after day, Velu rises hoping for rain, but the sky stays cloudless and his once-fertile land turns cracked and barren. He refuses to trust astrologers and even travels to the city for answers, but finds none — until he rests under a tree and meets an old woman, whose simple wisdom changes how he sees his troubles: just as people need rest, so too does the land. As he walks home with a lighter heart, clouds gather and the long-awaited rains arrive. You will read the story, explore its message about patience and respect for nature, build vocabulary, and study storytelling grammar.
