Bibha Chowdhuri was a pioneering Indian physicist, one of the first Indian women to do advanced research in particle physics and cosmic rays. She is remembered for her scientific achievements and for opening the path for women in Indian science.

She grew up at a time when girls were rarely encouraged to study and women faced many oppressive social expectations. Pursuing science as a woman was extremely difficult.

It means that Bibha’s example shone like a guiding light, showing other women that they too could become scientists. By breaking barriers, she lit the way for the women who came after her.
